  • Microsoft will launch the first Foldable Surface Duo on September 10

Microsoft Surface Duo will be launching on September 10. It is an Android-powered dual-screen foldable smartphone introduced by Microsoft after a long wait that will arrive next month. In the US the price of Surface Duo is $1,399 (roughly Rs 1.04 lakh) and in case of the pre-order cost will be high. The foldable device has not arrived in India right now. But the specifications of the device made it a very competing device with Samsung and Motorola’s foldable which are available in India.

The Surface Duo specifications had already been released in the market, but surprisingly Microsoft launched it as a foldable device. The Surface Duo contains two 5.6-inch OLED displays with a resolution of 1800×1350 pixels and an aspect ratio of 4:3. The two devices combined to form an 8.1-inch real estate with a total revolution of 1800×2700 pixels and an aspect ratio of 3:2. The two displays are merged at the centre with a robust mechanism that Microsoft implemented in this device. A bumper case will be provided inside the retail box for the protection against regular wear and tear.

It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor coupled with 6GB of RAM, 256GB of storage providing competition with Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Motorola’s Moto Razr. The device contains a single 11-megapixel camera for all types of photography in the foldable device. Other features are HDR, 4K 60fps, superzoom, and electronic image stabilisation (and not the optical one sadly).

Microsoft provided a 3775mAh battery that split into two halves under each display on the Surface Duo. The battery performs 10 days of standby time and 27 hours of talk time which is less than that Samsung offered in the original Galaxy Fold.

Like all the foldable devices the Microsoft Surface Duo will support Android apps because of its Android base. Microsoft makes its Office and OneDrive apps optimise and other apps utilise fully in the two displays efficiently. A seamless transition is available between various app sizes on multiple displays and can be used for PC-like productivity on Surface Duo.
