  • I have learned everything from research to strategic planning to execution – Dr Neh Srivastava (President, Central Secretariat Services Officers Society)
Dr Neh Srivastava

1. Introduce yourself?

Being a Bureaucrat, I have had exposure to all four pillars of the Nation, important to run and manage any Organisation i.e., Legislature, Executive, Judiciary, and Media.

Having a long career in different Ministries, my greatest strength is being an Administrator, knowing 3 keys to management i.e. Human Resource Management; Time Management, and Resource Management.

Being an educationist alongside my administrative career, my second greatest strength is being a Motivator and Speaker, who can lead from the front by not only guiding the Students but also filling them confidence and problem-solving attitude, which is the need of the nation to make India reach to the height under the great leadership of present PM, Hon’ble Narendra Modiji.

My third greatest strength is being a social activist, who has the apathy for the public, who is attached to the emotions and requirements of the poor and needy, who has the ideals & Principals, who have the moral values, desiring to inculcate these in today’s generation and to bring GURU-SHSHYA parampara back, where Teachers and Students have love and respect for each other.

3. What made you start this project?

I started this Welfare Society in 2016 at the age of 48 while working as Under Secretary in the Govt of India, however, in view of the extreme pressure of meeting the expectations of members coupled with administrative, management, legal, and welfare activities, I felt forced to take voluntary retirement in 2020 to serve the public through this small venture HOUSING- a need for all.

4. How does it impact the market or society?

Housing as of now has been in the hands of Private Builders majorly in view of expanding demand by the public and substandard construction by Govt. agencies, the result of which has been lots of misappropriation and undelivered projects by Private developers.

We, being a non-profit society, our motive is to provide good quality houses for Public/ Pvt Officers at affordable prices without any profit and to save our fellow officers and the public from their clutches.

5. What does your business do?

Our aim is to make the best of the facilities and services accessible to the public at large, be it Housing, Education, Recreational, Health, or Social activities.

6. Which problem does it solve, if any?

It is going to be a phenomenon in times to come, provided Govt supports us as my plans are to provide Housing to Govt employees, who have to be in the queue for more than 20-25 years to be eligible to get their due accommodation to cause of which they are not able to give their best in the jobs. Whereas on another hand the Pvt Public has to be dependent on Builders who despite taking hefty prices do not deliver their project in time.

7. What is the USP of your business?

My 20 years of credibility as a Bureaucrat with unflinching personal interest with my will power and dedication to take India ahead in line with the PM's vision is the only USP, I can talk about.

8. The future prospect of the business.

It's not the business in a commercial sense but yes, it’s the BUSINESS OF MAKING INDIA PROUD as not only Housing but I am also planning to start Schools, Colleges and Universities to impart best of the education based on NEW EDUCATION POLICY, 2020; apart from entering into Health Sector by opening Hospitals for the middle-class segment which would be a combination of best of Medical professionals/ facilities and cost-effective treatment and also Family Clubs for recreation activities as India is at 144th number in Happiness Index according to UN World Happiness Report, 2020.

9. What encouraged you to start your Business/Profession?

Our colleagues’ needs and blockades of our hard-earned money with the Builders, made me decide to make an effort through this Welfare initiative which paid off, because of trust shown by the public on CSSOS.

10. Whom do you consider as your inspiration professionally and why?

Courage, hard work, dedication, and the undying spirit of serving the nation through all odds shown by Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel, our First Home Minister, and Current Prime Minister Shri Narender Modi has been the inspiration for me to enter into this field full time now after getting myself relieved from Government under Voluntary Retirement Scheme.

11. What type of problems did you face as an entrepreneur? What has been your learning from them and how did you overcome them? Anything from your personal life that may have impacted you professionally?

On one side, it has been tough to preside over a Welfare Society having members from different intellectual backgrounds and status. Despite having all the good intentions and zeal to serve the members and public, I have to continuously prove myself within the organization as unlike a Director of the Company, I am not the owner of the Society. I am like any ordinary member of the Society who has been elected as President of the Society for this period.

Another side, out of competition some Position holders in Govt directly and indirectly, from ideologies different from that of mine, have been creating constant hindrances to sabotage my efforts of achieving this welfare mission challenging the position I have acquired in this short span of time.

12. What were the essentials needed to start your business or pursue your profession?

Modi Ji's 3Ds were the most essential for me to take this project ahead. His DREAM to make India Vishwa-Guru; DYNAMISM is shown to the world, and DEDICATION to serve our Country-men has been a motivating factor for me to pursue my dream even by taking voluntary retirement.

13. How did you identify the opportunity in the market?

The idea of forming a Not for profit Society first occurred to me when I went through a news item that appeared in the newspapers about Land pooling Policy. We thought to come together with a Society whereby we can develop our own Group Housing Society instead of trapping ourselves in the hands of Builders.

14. What makes you unique as an entrepreneur? Anything from your personality that has helped you professionally?

Having an eye for envisioning the needs of people; dreaming about fulfilling them; a passion for rebuilding public trust probably makes me different from others. I am a self-believer, which is the foremost thing to follow dreams and that is what has helped me think of something different and I wish I would succeed in what I have thought of.

15. What have been your learnings from entrepreneurship/ your profession?

Over 20 years in Government, I have a wide horizon of thoughts, and having worked in almost all verticals, I have learned everything; from research to strategic planning to execution; to review & monitor to rectification and implementation of ideas to reach goals.

16. Any advice to anyone starting up or budding entrepreneurs?

I am truly impressed by the younger generation equally, who are not only technically sound but also focused on achieving their targets.

I would just advise them to follow 3Ps to achieve SUCCESS in life ie PASSION; PERFORMANCE; and PATIENCE.
