The Union government has ordered the procurement of paddy in Punjab and Haryana at minimum support price (MSP) to pacify agitated farmers. Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution issued the order to procure crops in these two states on Saturday itself. Harvest of paddy began to arrive in “mandis” or APMS markets of Punjab and Haryana. While the government announces MSPs for 23 crops, it bought only wheat and rice in maximum quantity.
