  • Amazon, Flipkart : To pass their source code to Indian govt for local startups

E-commerce giants Amazon, Flipkart, and Google are planning to make their source codes and algorithms available for the government of India. Besides, the e-commerce companies will have to discover if they have explainable AI.

As per reports, Bloomberg in which a 15-page policy was drafted by the government will work for two years. The policy draft was proposed by the Ministry of Commerce’s Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade. The motive behind the policy is to reduce the monopoly and dominance of the tech giants and to promote local startups.

This new proposal was launched to give the government stronghold and access to oversee how companies can handle consumer data.

As per the policy, the e-commerce platforms will provide its consumers with the details of sellers, including phone numbers, customer complaint contacts, email, and addresses. consumers will also get the details about where imported goods are concerned, the country of origin, and the value of work done in India.

The e-commerce companies will be given a window of 72 hours to present the government with the information regarding this proposal. The government might require e-commerce platforms to store their data locally.

However, there is no official statement from the Indian government about this policy. The development was reported just after the government banned 59 Chinese apps from India.

A few days ago, the government banned 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, WeChat, BeautyPlus from India because these apps were engaged in activities prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense, the security of a state, and public order. so they might harm the user’s privacy and security. It was important to ban these apps for citizen’s security.
