Apple’s M1 powered MacBook Pro versus MacBook Air

With Apple’s M1 processor, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air seem to be similar but there are some differences which you need to know before you purchase the MacBook Air that costs $999 or MacBook Pro which is priced at $1,299.

The MacBook Pro and MacBook Air share many common features –

Similarities in MacBook Pro and MacBook Air

MacBook Pro and MacBook Air have equal 13.3-inch LED-backlit display with IPS technology, True Tone, and P3 Wide Color. The content and color won’t look different on both the devices.  Both contain an octa-core M1 chipset, octa-core GPU, and the 16-core neural engine. The two MacBooks are packed with 16 GB RAM and 2TB internal storage. 

MacBook Pro 13 and MacBook Air have the same type of connectivity ports for Bluetooth 5.0, USB 4 ports, and 802.11ax Wi-Fi. Both MacBooks come in Silver and Space Gray color.  

Along with similarities, there are also present some meaningful differences which make each of them unique on their own. The differences that are worth considering include design, display brightness, and battery life.

Differences between MacBook Pro and MacBook Air

M1 powered MacBook Pro has a thicker and slab-like design while MacBook Air is slim and has a wedge-style design. MacBook Pro has an active and powerful thermal cooling system that will help to achieve better performance from the same chipset as MacBook Air has no active ventilation. . Pro gives brightness with 500 nits while Air with 400 nits. 

MacBook Pro has a battery life of up to 20 hours and up to 17 hours of web browsing, while MacBook Air’s battery life lasts up to 18 hours providing 15 hours of online surfing. Pro comes with stereo speakers with a more dynamic range than Air. Pro weighs 3 pounds and Air weighs 2.8 pounds. MacBook Air is 0.2 pounds lighter than MacBook Pro and is available in golden color also.
