Apple and Google have deleted gaming app Fortnite by Epic Games from App Store and Google Play Store for violating policies of their in-app payments. The removal helps the tech giants and the developer of Fortnite, Epic Games may take an antitrust lawsuit against Apple and Google about their payment policies “anti-competitive”.
According to the Sensor Tower report Fortnite has over 350 million players across the world. The step to remove the app from both the Play Store and App Store would be responsible for the huge losses for the game developer. The reasons behind it are-
- Epic Games rolled out an updated Fortnite in which the users need to pay directly to Epic for the in-app purchases related to Fortnite. This is against the payment policies of both Apple and Google which demand a 30 share from the app purchases.
- Apple will take action against Epic Games by removing its popular game Fortnite from the App Store because of violating the App Store guidelines. Google also does the same for the same reasons.
- Epic has some features in its app which was not approved by Apple. They also have complaints about violating the App Store guidelines regarding in-app payments for every developer selling digital goods or services.
- Google has complained about the violation of its policies but also wants to welcome the idea of Epic for bringing the app back. The experts also confirmed that the app is banned from the Play Store but the users can download it from other Android platforms like the Epic Games app and Samsung Galaxy Store for Samsung users.
The open Android ecosystem now spread the apps in multiple app stores. The game developers who use the Play Store should follow the policies that made the users safe. Fortnite can be available on Android, not in the Play store.
