Neha Narkhede is an Indian-born American entrepreneur, advisor & investor. She co-founded Confluently and served as its CTO before becoming a board member in the year 2020. She is a self-made millionaire and a women entrepreneurs in India. 

Neha Narkhede moved from India to the United States in 2006, She began her career at Oracle as a software engineer in 2007. After that, she started working for Linkedin. In 2014,  Neha got together with some of her colleagues from Linkedin, and they created a streaming company called Confluent. The current value of that company is 2.5 billion dollars. 

According to Forbes, Neha Narkhede is one of the richest self-made women entrepreneurs in the world. She believes that her father was the biggest motivator of her success. When she was a child, he would show her books about women who were brave and who were successful in their fields. 

These stories gave her a sense of power, and good life lessons and they enabled her to see herself as successful. Today she is working as an investor and advisor for multiple technology companies. 

Education of Neha Narkhede

Neha Narkhede was born in Pune India in 1984. She attended the Pune Institute of Computer Technology, and she later went to the University of Pune. She got her Bachelor of Science in Engineering.

 After completing her degree she moved to the US and got her masters in Technology at Georgia Tech. She decided to stay in the US, and she was later able to get her citizenship. After finishing her higher education, she started working at Oracle as a software engineer. 

Career of Neha Narkhede

Neha moved to work at LinkedIn in 2011, and she and her partners founded Confluent in 2014. In 2017 she published a book named “Kafka: The Definitive Guide” alongside Gwen Shapira and Todd Palino about her knowledge of the technology. It is well received by readers across the world who are interested in learning more about its founding story. She now works as a board member at this company that, in 2019, raised $125 million for a total funding amount of $206 million by then. 

In April 2020, it had already brought its total funding to another milestone-$250 million – leaving it valued at $456 million and with an expected IPO date set for June 1st 2021. Companies such as Goldman Sachs, Netflix and Uber have started using their platform to develop data-driven purposes since they filed for one back in March 2017 (valued at around 10 billion).

  • In 2017, MIT Technology Review ranked her as one of the top innovators under 35. The following year she was also listed among America’s and the world’s top 50 Women in Tech by Forbes. 

  • She received an Oracle Groundbreaker Award at Oracle Code One conference in San Francisco.

  •  In 2020, the Forbes list ranked Narkhede #33 on “America’s Self-Made Women.”

  •  She was the Chief Technology Officer of Confluent and later took on the role of Chief Product Officer until 2020.

Net worth of Neha Narkhede

In June 2022, Forbes, too, listed Narkhede in their list of America’s Richest Self-Made Women, at number 57, with a net worth of $490 million. At the Apache Kafka Summit in London that was organised by Confluent in 2019, Narkhede stated that 60% of Fortune 100 companies were using Apache Kafka.

“Even today, the new companies that get created digital-wise use it as a basis for their business,” she stated in an interview. Neha Narkhede has been ranked 336 in the Hurun India Rich List with an estimated wealth of ₹ 4,700 crores.

Neha Narkhede had reportedly reached the 8th position among the top 10 richest Indian women. She is the recent entry to join India’s wealthiest women with a net worth of ₹13,380 crores.

Neha’s first startup company: Confluent

Confluent

Neha and her partners founded Confluent in 2014. Confluent Platform is a full-scale data streaming platform that allows you to easily access, store and manage data as a continuous, real-time stream platform. Found by three LinkedIn Engineers. It is focused on the open-source Apache Kafka real-time messaging technology that Jay Kreps, Neha Narkhede and Jun Rao created and developed. 

Confluent Platform lets you aim at how to derive business value from your information rather than worrying about how data is being transported or integrated between different systems. Specifically, Confluent Platform simplifies connecting data sources to Kafka, building streaming applications, as well as securing, monitoring, and managing.

Confluent is based on Apache Kafka, an open-source distributed event streaming platform companies use for high-performance data pipelines, streaming analytics, and data integration created with a $500,000 commitment from LinkedIn. 

The confluent software, which is now used by over 100,000 organizations around the world, was created to help LinkedIn manage the massive amounts of data associated with its real-time data. As of March 2021, Confluent serviced approximately 2,550 clients, with 136 of those being companies on the Fortune 500 list.

Confluent revenue generation

Confluent makes money by selling its real-time data platform; they have two options available: cloud-based and software-based.

Confluent Cloud

The first option Confluent Cloud is a completely managed cloud-native service; this service is available on Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.

Here, there are three options 

  • Basic which is (free).

  • Standard.

  • Dedicated. 

The company says that the Basic plan features everything a business requires to start prototyping and developing applications. And if you want to upgrade your business can then move to a Standard or Dedicated plan.

Confluent software 

Confluent Platform is the software-based option that offers you a complete and self-managed solution for continuously streaming data.

This product gives commercial features not available in Apache Kafka and also includes enterprise support for every component of the platform. Such components include Apache ZooKeeper and Confluent community features such as Schema Registry and REST Proxy. 

There is a 30-day free trial of Confluent software, after which they will charge according to the specific needs of an individual.
